Training module on Urban Transport and Environment

Impacts on environment are at the very core of any discussion about greater sustainability in the urban transport sector. After all, environmental concerns were the spark igniting the international dialogue on sustainable development almost 40 years ago. In today's understanding, sustainability encompasses far more issues - but environmental and increasing social questions still remain the focus. This module therefore takes a closer look at the negative consequences of transportation on the natural environment and human well-being, and outlines measures to address these problems. Beyond the purely negative impacts, it also explains why transport has an important positive role to play for social cohesion and participation within urban society.
