Navdeep Singh Virk joined the Indian Police Service in 1994 under Haryana Cadre. During his 21 years of service in the police, he has been the District Superintendent of Police in six districts namely Ambala, Sonipat, Hissar, Jhajjar, Kaithal and Gurgaon.
As Deputy Inspector General of Police he had been posted once again at Gurgaon in the State Crime Branch for about 18 months in 2011-12. He was the Joint Commissioner of Police at Faridabad in 2012. As Inspector General of Police, he has served the departments of Armed Police, India Reserve Battalions (Gurgaon) and Law & Order for the state of Haryana (Panchkula).
His work credits includes exposing a huge statewise racket involving FCI. As SP Gurgaon he was instrumental in catching the D-Company Gang involving mobile telecom operators which was a major threat to corporates in 2006.
He has represented India in several international conferences on cyber crime and security. Virk has been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the Republic Day 2011 by the Government of India.
As a CP, Gurgaon since 23rd November, 2014, he has started a lot of innovative initiatives to make the police force community and service oriented. Some of the other notable initiatives of Gurgaon police during his tenure are Car Free Day to ease out the traffic woes in the city of Gurgaon, Society for Safe Gurgaon (SSG), Student Police Cadet Programme, Muskaan- A month long programme to trace missing children and Udaan to identify under privileged slum children and enroll them in skill development training.
