New mobility is a fast-growing space that requires continued research, analysis, and documentation. WRI has been filling this gap with high-quality research.  In collaboration with our partners across sectors, we have been capturing the changing landscape of urban mobility through timely and relevant publications. Through this process, we seek to unlock new ideas and provide essential data to guide reform and expand knowledge on key industry trends.

Carsharing grew from 6 carsharing operators (CSOs) in emerging economies in 2012 to 41 by mid-2015. Research from WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities tracks rapid expansion of carsharing and explores five key questions: (1) What is the current status of the industry in emerging markets? (2) What are the main barriers to and opportunities for implementation? (3) What are the potential markets? (4) How should carsharing systems be designed in these markets? (5) What might be the societal and environmental impacts?
In 2014, WRI India Sustainable Cities and Shell Foundation mentored three early-stage businesses to deliver large-scale improvements in the auto-rickshaw ecosystems of Pune, Bangalore, and Chennai.
