Designation: Project Manager - Urban Transport
Prashanth is a Project Manager – Urban Transport at WRI India Sustainable Cities. He is currently based in Hyderabad and supports WRI India’s initiatives on sustainable transport, focusing on improving the performance of bus operations and offering technical support to the transport team. He was earlier stationed at Indore where he lead the project management, demand assessment, financial planning, public outreach and other support to Atal Indore City Transport Services Ltd. (AICTSL) for the launch of the city’s Bus Rapid Transit project – iBus.
Prashanth is working on the ‘Bus Karo Plus’ project that includes capacity building and envisages creating a peer-to-peer learning network among city bus agencies. He is also leading the driver training program and management practices for fuel-efficiency programs. Prashanth has also conducted performance analyses of city bus routes, including the direction based Big-10 routes in Bangalore that resulted in improved operations and the introduction of express services.
Prashanth has 10 years of experience in transport planning and his work has resulted in more than 2 lakh passengers experiencing better public transport facilities each day. Prior to WRI India, he worked on projects in public transport planning and operations, route rationalization, long-range urban transport planning and modeling in association with Engineering Staff College of India and Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University. He has worked as a transport planner at PBS&J in Tallahassee, Florida. In Hyderabad, Prashanth has been instrumental in reviving and improving the suburban train services (MMTS), and has been involved with several NGO groups in the fields of education, environment and sustainable living.
Prashanth has completed Master’s coursework in Transport Planning at Louisiana State University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Osmania University in Hyderabad.
