Managing Associate - Research and Practice


Lakshmi is a Managing Associate - Research & Planning at WRI India Sustainable Cities. Her current work is focused on evaluating environmental and public health impacts of transportation projects and effects of built form on travel behavior. She is also the WRI India Center Quality Coordinator. She works closely with the authors to ensure that the new quality assurance process is followed for all publications released by WRI India. Her passion is sustainable planning and working on policy that encourages healthy living, improves quality of life and creates pedestrian-safe roads and zones.

Lakshmi has worked in the San Francisco Bay Area as an Urban Planner and Designer and with several cities in Southern CA, WA and AZ. Her past experience was focused on advanced planning and policy analysis and ranged in scale from regional plans, downtown plans, design guidelines and zoning codes. She also has considerable experience in the areas of Project Management, Budgeting, Proposal Development, Public Presentations and Writing.

Lakshmi holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from San Jose State University, San Jose, CA and Bachelors in Architecture from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, India. She is a LEED-Accredited Professional (AP), is AICP certified and a Project Management Professional (PMP).

She volunteers with eVidyaloka, an NGO that strives to bridge the learning gaps faced by children in rural India. She is eVidyaloka’s Coordinator for Content Volunteers. She currently lives in Bangalore with her husband Guru and her boys Vidyuth and Vishruth. Her other interests include blogging, baking, taking road-trips and cooking with her boys, and meditation.
