Alok Gupta


Alok is the former Chief Operating Officer at WRI India Sustainable Cities where he provided leadership for business planning, operations management and alliance/partner development. Alok has 20+ years of global experience in consulting, business development, product management and delivery of software solutions. He has a good mix of private and social sector experience having worked with start-up, multi-national as well as government organizations.
Prior to joining WRI India, he was part of the startup team at Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), an attached office of Planning Commission Government of India, driving program strategy and implementation of AADHAAR - world's largest biometric based online identity platform for 1.2 billion Indian residents. The solution enabled effective delivery of welfare services and rollout of Aadhaar based financial inclusion platform. He worked with State Governments & Banks to evangelize and drive UIDAI solutions rollout. In addition he led an internal initiative to review UIDAI strategy and build a long term sustainable organization. Prior to UIDAI, he had taken two early stage technology ventures to the Indian market as a founding team member leading Business Development and Product functions. In addition he mentored couple of startups at NSRCEL, an Incubation cell at IIM Bangalore.
Earlier he had worked in United States for 10 years with Trend Micro as Director IT Strategy and with DiamondCluster International as Senior Consultant; developing and executing digital strategies for business growth. Alok has an Electronic Commerce management degree (MSEC) from Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University and Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering.
